CALLUM eVita

Great engineering can make ambitious design accessible to everyone. Working in pursuit of CALLUM's vision on the eVITA electric wheelchair-accessible vehicle, Kamm helped translate an innovative concept into a physical reality. With demanding timescales, the programme required an intelligent approach to composite manufacturing without compromising the design intent.

Realising Inclusive Automotive Design Through Composite Engineering

Developed by CALLUM in partnership with Motability Operations, eVITA explores a new approach to electric wheelchair-accessible vehicles, placing accessibility and passenger experience at the centre of the design. Kamm supported the programme from its initial concept phase, providing design-for-manufacture expertise across the complete vehicle body and closure panels. This included component geometry development, material selection and the manufacture of all necessary tooling, machined directly from modelboard. With carbon fibre specified throughout the bodywork, Kamm adopted resin infusion processes across the components, providing a practical manufacturing solution within the project's demanding time and budget constraints. The programme demonstrates the importance of integrating manufacturing expertise early in the design process to realise ambitious automotive concepts.

  • Early-stage design-for-manufacture support during vehicle concept development
  • Engineering input across the complete body and closure panels
  • Component geometry optimisation and composite material selection
  • Design and manufacture of all required composite tooling
  • Direct machining of tooling from modelboard
  • Carbon-fibre component manufacture using resin infusion processes
  • Manufacturing strategy developed around demanding budget and programme constraints
